Royal Enfield
India do not make a lot of cool stuff. But the few they have. And perhaps the coolest thing of them all is the Royal Enfield Motorcycle. Some advantages do India have, not to have hang on to all the world’s modernizations and fashion designs.
Royal Enfield was the brand of Enfield Cycle Company, an English engineering company. They were best known for the production of motorcycles, but they also produced bicycles, lawnmowers, stationary engines, and even parts of rifles for the Royal Small Arms Factory in Enfield Lock. This legacy of weapons manufacturers is reflected in the logo, a cannon, and their motto “Made like a gun, goes like a bullet”.
The company could thus make use of the brand name Royal Enfield from 1890. If things work, let things be. And they have let Royal Enfield be. The result is a classic motorcycle, with personality and formfull lines. In 1955 Enfield of India started the production of Bullet motorcycles under license. And from 1962, made the company’s own complete bikes.
The original Redditch, Worcestershire, based company was dissolved in 1970. But Enfield in India, based in Chennai, went on and bought the rights to the Royal Enfield name in 1995. A round tank, a single exhaust tube, a wide handlebars and a wonderful sound from the engine. A comfy driving position makes it possible to turn away from all the cows in the streets.
Although the bike is a classic, there has been some development. Royal Enfield has moved away from gearing on the right hand side, and now sell bikes with classic left hand (foot) gearing.
Unfortunately, does the Royal Enfield motors let out a high amount of exhaust fumes. They are not that environmentally friendly as the EU will have their motorcycles.
But Royal Enfield is working on it.

nice post,
my two cents,
left foot gear is contemporary and not classic,
